Apple's Production Pivot: iPhone 15 Manufacturing Likely To Shift To India; Might Be Made By Tata
Apple is reportedly planning to manufacture its upcoming iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models in India, with the Tata Group emerging as the potential manufacturing partner. Research firm TrendForce reveals that Tata has secured "small orders" for the new iPhone models, expected to be launched between September and October this year. The acquisition of Wistron's Indian production line has enabled Tata to take on these orders. This move signifies Apple's strategic shift in production locations, expanding beyond China. Notably, Apple already produces iPhone SE, iPhone 12, and iPhone 14 in India.

According to a recent report, Tata Group, the potential manufacturing partner for Apple's iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, may receive new design instructions from Apple. This is because the upcoming models are expected to feature Type-C ports, which are commonly used for charging and data transfer among many Android phones and newer Apple iPads. Until the iPhone 14 series, Apple relied on its proprietary Lightning charging port, which did not offer high charging and data transfer speeds. The shift to Type-C ports represents a significant change in Apple's design strategy.

In addition, the forthcoming iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are anticipated to feature a unique Dynamic Island notch instead of the static notch housing the front camera and Face ID sensors. The Dynamic Island notch, previously introduced on the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max models, offers the ability to adjust its size dynamically in response to notifications and incoming calls. This innovative feature breaks the monotony of the front display, which has maintained a consistent design for several years. Source
